Seriously
I can't even explain how the end of this semester is killing me. I feel dead inside. After Saturday, things will be better, because then all I will have is work ever day and 4 really hard finals. But that is seriously nothing compared to the last month I have had. I have lost the will to blog. I'm never going to be able to require small children to write everyday. I don't think I'm even going to teach children to write. They must learn it on their own, through independent study of the baby-sitters club books that I will assign every day. You know at the beginning of each chapter there is a usually a sample of one of the baby-sitter's writing. Computer generated girly handwriting...that is how they will learn.

What I was thinking about...
... while I was driving back from work this morning.
1) If you ever wake up in the morning and think, "I have nothing to wear", know that the answer is never day-glow wind suits.
2) That statue on Cole Ave of the adult spinning a child by one arm and one leg really freaks me out.
3) It is not a good idea to recreate the Versailles gardens in the front yard of your Highland Park house. The lots are too small people!!

Fantastic Grilling Extravaganza!
So on Monday I didn't want to do my English reading and I also didn't want to work on any of the 4 papers/projects I have due soon, so I called Jacque to hang out. We went to Mi Cocina in Highland Park Village. It's fun because I am amused by watching neauvue riche in their semi-natural habitat. Then we went back to the condo, because Jacque felt that we haven't been giving the condo enough attention since she moved to Dallas. Which is true. I need to have some parties soon.
Newsflash: I have two finals on the last final day, saturday, May 7th, so that evening after I sell all my books, I will be having a big blowout, so all four of you that read this kick-butt blog are invited to the condo. I will have fun beverages and mixers, but no gross inappropriate beverages. And by gross inappropriate beverages, I am referring to ALL inappropriate beverages, so you'll have to bring your own. That is all.
So then Jacque decides that she wants to buy a grill. So after a few home improvement websites we head over to Home Depot to get what looks like a kick-ass grill - hey it's on sale! When we get there we quickly realize that the grill we are looking for is not on the floor in the general area we are staring at, so we ask one of the delightful Home Depot employees for help. He was tall, blonde, had sort of a Zach Morris hair cut with so much gell his hair was almost white. He had an earring in his left ear and a pink polo shirt. I imagined that he was mocked by his co-workers, but I saw no evidence of this, unfortunately. He showed us some comparable grills, Jacque wants a gas one, and she decides on the one in the box on the very top shelf. So our helpful HD employee goes off to find some way to get it down. I am counting the minutes for heavy machinery. But he never returns. So we sit down and wait in the lawn furniture section. I lied, because eventually he returned with little friends and heavy machinery! Whoopie! They got the grill down with large beeping noises and another guy carries the big box over to the check-out counter. In the mean time, Jacque and I are discussing how we will get this large box back to her apartment. Jacque is sure that it will fit in the backseat, but I am sure that it will not. In fact I doubt it will fit in my impressively large trunk. So the guy carries the box to the car and ... I'm right, I'm right, I'm always right. Well, that's the song I sang in my head while the guy had to tie Jacque's grill to the back of my car. Jacque is now disillusioned with my car, but I don't care. I love you my little white Camry that doesn't smell like diesel fuel and starts no matter what the weather and has remote keyless entry and automatic locks. I love you.
That sounds like a great ending to a blog entry, but that is not the end of my tale.
Saturday Jacque and I struggled over the vegtable section trying to figure out what to grill and stared at the seasoning aisle until we called Austen and Mike who told us that they were just using salt and pepper and that we shouldn't ruin the steaks with other crap. But then Mike added that he marinated the steaks in mayonnaise. haha. Because Jacque hates mayonnaise. And she was sincerely upset ... because Jacque is gullible. But they didn't, of course, because that would truly be gross. With our mad grilling skillz, we created excellent food, the steaks were a little over cooked for the guys' taste, but just fine for me, cause I can't handle the blood or the pink...I realize that that's not how you are supposed to cook a filet, but I don't care. I prefer my red meat burnt to a crisp. It's just the way I am. The evening was spent watching tv and, for me at least, watching Austen and Mike tease Jacque to no end and threatening to leave inappropriate messages for her neighbors.
Heh.
Ahem.
Anyway, eventually I began to fall asleep and left Jacque's around 1amish...I'm not sure, I was so tired. P.S. We had some really great wine, and then I helped myself to Jacque's inappropriate beverages and coke offerings. Haven't had a that since, like, sophomore year. Wow! It took me back. I remember the time when I couldn't drink a coke near the band without smelling phantom inappropriate beverages.
Leave me alone.

I favor the two party system...
...party on Friday night, party on Saturday night. Just not last weekend. So Friday night Jacque called to see if I wanted to go with her to meet Austen and some other people at Buffalo Wild Wings ... in Bedford. Well, I didn't have any other plans, so why the hell not? There are so many reasons, but I didn't think about those when I said yes, I had just woken up from a nap!
So we get caught in traffic and then we get there about ten minutes late, but we get there, and there is Austen, random friend that I know, and random friend that I don't know. I don't particularly like wings, and the drinks there suck, so basically, I would have had as much or more fun if I had called Jacque from Dallas and talked to her while she ate dinner. Eventually tons of random people filtered in and an hour and a half later, Mike shows up. He's fun, Jacque and I like him. Two hours and about 6 glasses of water later I have to go to the bathroom really bad - and they are talking about going to a bar. Jordan wants to go to Pockets. This is the bar closest to my parent's house ... where My-Dad's-Drunken-Friend-Andrew hangs out.
Like hell!
So then Jacque suggests Sherlock's. And we all know going to Arlington is completely pointless. So then the guys suggest Lannegan's, this random bar in west Grapevine-ish. So we decide to go further west. Lord! When we get up to go, it's only Jordan, Mike, Austen, Jacque, and me going - which is okay, except I hate Jordan and Austen acts like an jerk around him, but maybe Mike will balance him out and Jacque and I can always talk to Mike right, so it can't be all bad, yeah? Oh my friends. No. Always say no to going west. I'm not going past Texas Stadium ever again. Unless I'm flying over it on my way to California - I'd like to give a shout out to Randy Hubach, Hey!
Sorry, anyway. Focus. So we get there. Jacque and I have a standing rule, if we see people from high school in a bar or restaurant, we don't go back. What happens when we don't obey that rule? Red Robin with Alan happens. So anyway, we go in and Jacque immediately starts bobbing her head around trying to see if she knows anybody. She doesn't and we head to the bar. The group orders a bucket of beers and head off to find seating. But then Jacque turns around, because she knows I don't drink beer, so I wait for my free margarita, thank you Austen! I look out into the crowd and see a person from high school - Brandon Mohan. Then Jacque spots another one down by the bar. Kelly Pitts.
I spoke to Kelly Pitts once, she asked me why I looked different in class and then she noticed that I had put lip gloss on, because I hadn't had band that morning...of course. But never spoke to Brandon, not once in 3 years. No point to start now. But Jordan knows him, so he definitely notices the group of us, damn. I say damn, because Jacque and I become awkward junior high students when confronted with former high school classmates. Jacque more than me, because I repress it. Hello psycho-analysis. So time, and socializing, goes on and eventually the table of two turns into a whole big group of people we knew in high school and Jordan has seated us right in front of them on some large couches. They all have to look right past us in order to see the Ranger game on tv. Nice. Eventually I find a way to ignore them and focus entirely on a conversation with Jacque and Mike, when this Der-unk-A$$-Guy (to be known as DRAG) shows up on the arm of the couch next to me. I jump and give a little shriek and he goes, "Oh my bad, I didn't mean to scare you."
"Okay, that's fine," I reply and turn around to listen to what Jacque is saying and she gives me this funny look and the DRAG taps me on the shoulder and I whirl around, probably smacking him in the face with my cute new bob hair-cut. He goes, "So I have this friend over there ... he's been watching you all evening...so are you married? Boyfriend, girlfriend?"
[Awkward pause] I can't think of anything to say...
"No, I'm not married" I manage to sputter...
[Awkward pause number 2]
"So can I send him over?"
"Uh, that's okay...no thanks." Which apparently means wait 1 minute and then send him over.
So this other guy wanders over and I wonder, is this another buddy, or the real thing?
Oh, he's real all right. Really, COOL! No. Nerdy, glasses, drinking beer. Sitting on the arm of the couch. Trying to have a conversation with me while I try to have a conversation with Jacque and Mike. Eventually I turn toward him, because I feel bad, I normally shoot guy down hard, so maybe I should wait, see if he buys me a drink and then say again, No thanks.
I shouldn't have waited. It's all a blur really because I ended up having 3.5 margaritas and a kamikazi shot, but I'll tell you it was awkward. He was 29 and he worked in the food industry something about the races, which races, I couldn't tell you, something that's coming up. There was a conversation about my major and that became him talking about the Soprano's and how he watched the first 4 seasons on DVD! Something about how screwed up kids are these days, it's good that I'll be teaching... It was so awkward and he just kept going on and on... and he lives in one of the Carolinas... North maybe? South? Who cares? In what alternate universe am I getting hit on in a bar in, according to what's his name, Ft. Worth? I don't know where the hell I am! His little buddies keep calling and text messaging him, like I would have done, had I still been in junior high. Then DRAG wonders over and leans in to tell his friend something and spills his beer all over the couch. Luckily it was some sort of pleather and the beer whipped right off. The guy told me to stop drying off the couch, it would confuse people...I'm not sure what that means, but I told him I didn't want to sit in beer, it's not my thing. Eventually his friends decide to leave and they head out the front door. One of the stragglers stumbles over and informs me how hot and cool his friend is and that I "should totally hook up with him!" Oh man, that's what I've been waiting to hear! So I told him to go away and I high-tailed it to the ladies room. But when I came out, Carolina was standing by the door. He kissed me on the cheek and said he enjoyed talking to me. I thanked him for the drink (frozen margarita, with salt, ewww) and went back to my beer soaked seat on the couch. I can't properly put into words how surreal the evening was... But it's over now and that's all that matters. I will never go west again.
So we get caught in traffic and then we get there about ten minutes late, but we get there, and there is Austen, random friend that I know, and random friend that I don't know.
